Overview

This article provides instructions on how to troubleshoot hardware health using SNMP polling.

Verify that the polling method is SNMP and it is successfully polling your hardware health. To do so, go to the Node Detail page and locate the Polling Detail resource. This resource indicates the configured polling method for a node.

Resolution

  • Determine if the SNMP responds for specific OID.

For information on how to determine if the SNMP responds, see Supported Hardware Health OIDs.

To determine if the remote server responds on a specific OID, use the MIB browser from SolarWinds Engineer's Toolset, downloaded from http://www.solarwinds.com/downloads/.

You can use the application of your choice that is capable of making SNMP requests or use the MIB browser on the Web console.

  • Create an SNMP Walk

If you do not have any tool for checking the OID on the remote server, create an SNMP Walk.

  • Create an UNDP to poll data

If the device does not support the OID, the device cannot be polled via the out-of-the box hardware health polling.

Create a UNDP to poll the Data for hardware health OIDs that are not supported via the SolarWinds hardware feature.
