Overview

The SNMP test fails when trying to add Palo Alto Firewall node to Orion.

Product section

Orion Platform

Cause

  1. The SNMP service on the Palo Alto firewall is not enabled.
  2. A firewall is blocking the connection between the device and Orion.
  3. The device is not configured correctly.

See How to Configure SNMPv2 on the Palo Alto Networks Firewall (© 2018 Palo Alto Networks, Inc., available at https://www.paloaltonetworks.com/, obtained on December 11, 2018) for more information.

Resolution

  1. Confirm that Orion can ping the device. Log in to the Orion application server and ping the device.
  2. Run an SNMP Walk (see SolarWinds SNMP Walk: A new tool for collecting SNMP MIB walks) on the device.
  3. If you receive a time-out message, it means that Orion cannot communicate with the device and that the device may be rejecting Orion SNMP queries.
  4. Run a Wireshark trace to confirm this.
