Overview

SolarWinds has transitioned Serv-U to a subscription-based licensing model.
As part of this change, renewed licenses for 2026 and later are only supported on Serv-U version 15.5.3 or newer.
If the renewed license shows "License Expired" or "Invalid License" when applied, the issue is typically caused by running an older version of Serv-U. Upgrading to the latest supported version resolves the licensing error and enables the renewed license to be applied successfully.

Cause

Renewed Serv-U licenses require version 15.5.3 or newer.
Older versions cannot validate the updated subscription license format, resulting in 'License Expired' or 'Invalid License' messages.

Resolution

Upgrade the Serv-U server to version 15.5.3 or later, as renewed subscription licenses are only supported on the latest licensing framework.
After upgrading, reapply the renewed license to complete the activation process.

Make sure that the License used to activate is the new license from the Customer Portal account and not the old license of the server.
