Serv-U: How to renew SSL certificate

This article describes how to renew an SSL certificate on a Serv-U system running Microsoft Windows or Linux.

Overview

To renew the SSL certificate, submit a Certificate Signing Request (CSR) to a Certificate Authority (CA) and request a new SSL certificate. You can use an existing CSR or create a new CSR for your request. This applies to Serv-U system running a Microsoft Windows or Linux operating system.

If you have a new certificate based on a new CSR, see Set up Serv-U with an SSL certificate for instructions.
If you renewed the SSL certificate based on the existing CSR, replace the certificate file with the new file.

  1. Place the SSL certificate file in a secured directory on the server.
  2. Log in to the Serv-U Management Console.
  3. If the certificate is for the entire server, go to Global > Limits & Settings > Encryption.
  4. If the certificate is for a specific domain, go to Domain > Limits & Settings > Encryption.
  5. Navigate to the certificate and private key files.

  1. Enter the password used to encrypt the private key file.
    • Notes: Leave the private key as it is if this is not a rekey or the same CSR used when renewing the SSL certificate
  2. Place the CA certificate from the SSL certificate provider or leave it as it is when it is already set.
  3. Click Save.

If the file paths and password are correct, Serv-U secures the FTPS and HTTPS connections using the provided certificate. If the password is incorrect or Serv-U cannot locate the provided files, the console displays an error.
