SolarWinds Platform Polling Engine IP address reverts after changing in the Engines table

This article addresses an issue on an SolarWinds Platform Polling Engine where the IP address reverts back to its previous address after changing the IP address in the Engines table.

Overview

The SolarWinds Platform server has multiple IP addresses and the wrong address persists in the Engines table. After changing the IP address in Engines, it reverts to the unwanted address.

Cause

The address is chosen based on interface priority in Windows.

Resolution

Option 1: 

  1. Open Network and Sharing in the Control Panel.
  2. Click Change adapter settings > Advance > Advance Settings.
  3. Move the Default Adapter to the top of the list then click OK.
  4. Run through all the steps in the Configuration Wizard.
  5. Verify that the Polling Engine IP address is correct.

Option 2: 

  1. On the SolarWinds Platform server > Control Panel
  2. Network and Sharing Center > Change adapter settings 
  3. Right click the adapter that is showing the Correct IP address
  4. Highlight TCP/IPv4 > Properties > Advanced
  5. Unchecked 'Automatic metric' and enter value '10'
  6. Click OK to submit
  7. Run the SolarWinds Platform Configuration Wizard
  8. Verify that the Polling Engine IP address is correct.
