How to run the Configuration Wizard in the SolarWinds Platform

Running the Configuration Wizard accomplishes the following:

• The Configuration Wizard refreshes files and services on SolarWinds Platform servers and performs checks on the structure of your database.
• Completes upgrades after running the installer - reference Upgrade Orion modules on additional pollers and web servers.

Note: In High Availability environments, please ensure HA is disabled first to prevent an unintentional failover. Reference Disable or delete HA pools, force a failover, or update an HA pool for SolarWinds Platform products for more information. For SolarWinds Platform 2022.2 and newer, steps to configure the NTA and Log Viewer databases are also included. This also applies to older versions of the SolarWinds Platform where NTA and Log Viewer are also installed.

Run Configuration Wizard

Close all open applications before you run the Configuration Wizard.
When running the Configuration Wizard on an Additional Polling Engine or an Additional Web Server, the SolarWinds Platform Web Console configuration i.

1. Log in to the SolarWinds Server as a Windows Local Administrator.
2. Start the Configuration Wizard found under Start > SolarWinds Platform > Configuration Wizard. The alternate way to launch the Configuration Wizard using Command Prompt:
   • Open CMD (right-click as admin) > Go to Volume:\Program Files (x86)\Solarwinds\Orion > run ConfigurationWizard.exe
3. On SolarWinds Platform 2020.2.4 and earlier, select one or more components to be repaired and click Next. When in doubt, select all options. Note that configuring the website might take a few minutes. 
   On SolarWinds Platform 2020.2.5 and newer, the Configuration Wizard goes through all components. Click Next to continue.
4. On Database Settings, verify that the correct SQL Server and authentication method are selected. For SQL Server Authentication, check that System Administrator credentials of the SQL server are used and click Next. Use SQL Server Authentication to ensure that the SolarWinds Platform server can always access the database, even when hosted remotely on a separate server.
5. On the next Database Settings screen, verify that the correct database is selected.
6. On Database Account, ensure a valid account and password for an existing account is used, and click Next. You can also create an account. This account is used by the polling engine and by the SolarWinds Platform Web Console to access the database.
7. On Website Settings, make sure the correct IP address, port, and location for the SolarWinds Platform Website are used and click Next.
8. If prompted to use the existing website, click Yes.
9. Review the list of services to be repaired, and click Next.
10. When completed, click Finish to launch the SolarWinds Platform Web Console.

SolarWinds Platform 2022.2 and newer

1. Select the location for the Log Viewer database and click Next.

2. Select the database to use and click Next.
   • 
3. Select the NTA SQL server location and credentials, then click Next.
   • 
4. Select the NTA database and click Next.
   • 
5. Select the account credentials to use to connect to the NTA database and click Next.
   • 
6. When completed, click Finish to launch the SolarWinds Platform Web Console.
