Overview

This article provides brief information and steps to resolve the issue when List Resources on Storage Array in NPM do not return array information.

Network Performance Monitor

Cause

Any of the following can cause the issue:

  • NPM typically monitors via ICMP, SNMP and WMI.
  • It is not able to provide Array specific information.
  • NPM List Resources is discovering OIDs that are already coded into the application.
  • Storage Arrays are typically monitored via SMIS to get array specific information.

Resolution

Another module is required for information on array on NPM - SRM.

The following are different workarounds:

  • Using Universal Device Poller, you can poll some information that is exposed and available via the SNMP Agent on the Storage Array.
  • To know which OIDs will hold the information you are looking for, you will need to check with the hardware vendor, as SolarWinds does not manage the OIDs on the device.
  • Adding MIB file of the Storage Array will not help in getting NPM to recognize the arrays. For further information on this, see Add MIBs to the SolarWinds MIB database.
