Add MIBs to the SolarWinds MIB database
To add additional device MIBs to the SolarWinds MIB database, you need to contact SolarWinds support. Review the Gotcha's to find out whether adding device MIBs might resolve your issue, get the latest MIB, and submit a new MIB to SolarWinds for compilation if you still want the device MIB added. When SolarWinds receives your input, the MIB will be added to the next SolarWinds MIB database update. When the update is available, you can download it from the Customer Portal.

Overview
SolarWinds maintains a MIB database that serves as a repository for the OIDs used to monitor a wide variety of network devices. The MIB database is compiled once a week. You are notified when the new MIB database is available.
This article discusses what to do if you want to add a device MIB to the SolarWinds Orion MIB database.

To request a device MIB to be added to the SolarWinds MIB database, you need to contact SolarWinds support.
Before you contact the support:
- Review the MIB and OID Gotcha's to find out whether adding the device MIB resolves your issue.
- Get the latest MIB from the Customer Portal to see whether the MIB hasn't been added already.
- If you still want the device MIB to be added, contact support.
MIB and OID Gotcha's
- Adding MIBs to Orion does not change the way Orion polls devices.
- If you list the device's resource and cannot see a certain resource (CPU, Memory, Interfaces, hardware health, etc.), adding the MIB will not resolve the issue. The resource will still not be shown even after MIB compilation.
- Adding MIBs to Orion does not update the values returned by the device's MIB. If your device's CPU, Memory, or Hardware health information is inaccurately reported by the device, adding the MIB will not resolve the issue.
- Adding MIBs to Orion will not resolve the 'SNMP test failed ' error while adding nodes into Orion.
- Adding MIBs to Orion does not change a device that has an Unknown machine type.
- Adding MIBs to Orion allows Orion to display trap messages from the device.
- Adding MIBs to Orion allows you to search for OIDs in the Universal Device Poller.
- If you know the OID, you can create a UnDP poller for the device without the OID being in the MIB database. See Monitoring MIBs with Universal Device Pollers
Update your Orion environment to the latest MIB Database
- Log in to the SolarWinds Customer Portal.
- Click Downloads > Orion MIB Database.
- Choose the download option based on your version. For 2025.2 and newer, be sure to select the msi targeted to this version. For older versions, select either the msi or zip option. The MIB database starts downloading.
- If you chose zip, open the downloads folder, extract the archive, and copy the MIBs.cfg file to the SolarWinds folder on your default install volume. Beginning in SolarWinds Platform 2025.2, this will be a MIBs.db file. See Update the SolarWinds MIB Database for more details.
- If you chose msi, open the downloads folder and run the msi installer to update the database.
The MIB database is updated. If your MIB does not show up, contact SolarWinds Support.
