Resolution

Preparation:

  • Back up Serv-U configuration, please refer to this link.
  • For easy migration, copy the Serv-U folder from C:\ProgramData\RhinoSoft
  • Back up the Serv-U installation folder as well from C:\Program Files\RhinoSoft (or <installation path>\Rhinosoft)
  • Make sure you Export the old server's Server Identity

Migrate:
1. Install the same version of Serv-U on the new server.
2. Stop the Serv-U service on the new server.

  1. Right-click the Serv-U icon from the lower-right-hand corner.
  2. Click Stop Serv-U.
  3. Right-click the Serv-U icon from the lower-right-hand corner again.
  4. Click Exit Tray.

3. Restore the backup Serv-U folder from the old server (which contains Serv-U.Archive, Serv-UID.txt, Users folder, etc.) in C:\ProgramData\RhinoSoft.
4. If necessary, copy the exact home directory structure from the old server to the new server, the same directory paths if this is a local drive home directory.
5. Start the Serv-U service.
6. Import Server Identity
7. Test the new server.
8. Upgrade if needed. Upgrade Serv-U to the latest version

Please Note:

  • Make sure that the new server also has the same/right permissions to the paths and folders. Running Serv-U under NETWORK SERVICE
  • If migrating from Windows to Linux, the same process is applied. However, you will need to consider updating the home directory of your users if the home directory that you have from the Windows server does not exist in the Linux machine.
  • Bounce the Listener. Go to Domains > Domain Details > Listeners tab, bounce the Listener, and assign it to the accurate IP Address of the new Server.
  • If you have custom images for your Branding Setup, please make sure to create a backup of it and paste to the same location after the upgrade
  • If you have customize the language of your Serv-U make sure to make a backup file of your String file. Translate the Serv-U user interface
