Overview

In some cases, you may face unexpected and unavoidable errors which cannot be fixed by support. In such cases, you may have to roll back the upgrades due to lack of time for the upgrade window or lack of a solution to upgrade issues, or encountering a new bug, etc.

Note:

  • A working backup set is mandatory for successful rollback to the previous version.
  • You may need to engage your DBA, Systems teams, etc to complete this activity.

If the SolarWinds server is a virtual machine:

  1. Restore the last known good backup of the SolarWinds Orion Databases (SolarwindsOrionDB, SolarwindsNTADB, SolarwindsOrionLogDB)
    • You may not have all 3 databases if you are on SolarWinds platform ver 2020.2.6 and below. The three DBs exist if you are running version 2022.x and above.
    • If you took a snapshot of the DB VM, it is much easy and quick to revert back.
  2. Restore the backup / Snapshot of all SolarWinds servers in your implementation starting from the Main poller.
  3. Restart the SolarWinds Platform services on the Main poller via SolarWinds Platform Service Manager and then on the rest of the pollers (if applicable)
  4. If you experience any problems with any of the services not keeping stable, restarting, or not starting at all, then you may need to run the Configuration Wizard on the Main poller and any additional pollers in your environment.

If the SolarWinds server is a physical server:

  1. Download the offline installer of the previous version from the Customer Portal.
  2. Ensure that all SolarWinds Platform services are stopped on the polling engine.
  4. Refer to this KB article to uninstall SolarWinds Platform products from a server and prepare for reinstall.
  5. Run the previous version offline installer to reinstall the SolarWinds Platform products. See the installation guide for more information.
