Force the NIC order

This article explains how to force the priority of a NIC in an environment where multiple NICs are present and the Database is picking up the wrong NIC IP address.

Overview

In SolarWinds servers with more than one interface present, the interface metrics will need to be manually changed. 
When the SolarWinds database is picking up the wrong NIC IP address, this procedure forces the priority of NICs.

Cause

Multiple IPs for the NIC on the server, interface metric is set to automatic metric.

Resolution

  1. Go to Start > Run >  ncpa.cpl.

  1. Right-click on the network adapter you want to prioritize, and select Properties.

  1. Highlight the Internet Protocol Version 4 and select Properties.

  1. In the "General" tab click the Advanced button.

  1. At the bottom of the window, uncheck Automatic Metric if is checked and put 1 for Interface Metric. This assigns the NIC to the database and should receive the correct IP.

  2. Verify the active or priority NIC

  3. Run the Configuration Wizard with the steps in How to run the Orion Configuration Wizard in the Orion Platform to update the correct IP address.
