Overview

During normal installation or staged installation (i.e. new product/module/HotFix) or upgrade which is performed from within Orion Deployment (Updates & Evaluations page) OR via during standalone installation you may receive the following error message:

Could not get installer metadata from administration service on main polling engine.

Cause

  1. SolarWinds Administration Service not running on Main poller
  2. Insufficient disk space on the Server where installer is run.
  3. Networking issues (i.e. slow connection, security measures) between Main poller and the Scalability engines (Pollers / Additional webservers)
  4. Wrong Version of Solarwinds Administration Service Registry on main poller's pointing to wrong version or path

Resolution

Solution for Cause 1:
  1. Log in to the main polling engine.
  2. Open the Orion Service Manager.
  3. Restart the SolarWinds Administration Service.
  4. Attempt installation again.

Solution for Cause 2:
  1. Adjust (increase) free space on the boot disk (C:) and drive on which Orion is installed (default C:)
  2. Attempt installation again.

Solution for Cause 3:
  1. Download full package (Offline Installer) from the Customer Portal.
  2. Attempt installation using downloaded package.
