Configure a different device or computer name during the installation of the Dameware Remote Everywhere (DRE) agent

Overview

By default, when installing the DRE agent on the remote device or computer, it will automatically register it with the name of the actual device silently. However, you can always modify it after installing it from the admin area or the DRE technician console. The DRE device name is not tied to the registration, so modification of the name will not affect the agent functions.

You can customize the name of the device during the installation of the agent by performing some modifications in the agent setup in the DRE admin area

Resolution

  1. Log in to the Admin Area as an administrator.
  2. Go to the Profile menu and then select the Agent Setup.
  3. In the General tab, under Name, uncheck the two boxes.
    • Use the Computer Name as the Agent Name
    • Silently register computer (don't ask user)
  4. Click Save.
  5. Go to the Devices menu and then add the device; you can refer to the article on adding the device.
  6. Make sure to select the OS Windows EXE.

Notes: 
  • By design, it will only apply to the Windows EXE
  • When you select the Windows MSI, it will reset the settings of the two boxes in step 3 back to default.
