Overview
ICMP status response (ping) is recommended in nearly all instances. The only time it wouldn't be recommended is when ping is disabled to the target node.

Cause
For faster response time, we use ICMP instead of SNMP for status polling.
However, to monitor Status and Response time of a node when ICMP is blocked on the network environment or ICMP is disabled on the node, you can switch instead to SNMP/Agent if this protocol is enabled or allowed on the environment.
Resolution
-
Log in to the SolarWinds Platform Web Console using an account with admin rights.
- Go to Settings > All Settings > Manage Pollers.
- Select SolarWinds Native Poller on the left pane.
- Select the check box for Status & Response Time SNMP.
- Click Assign.
-
Perform either of the following:
- Select the check boxes of the nodes to be changed, and then click Enable Poller.
- Toggle the ON/OFF switch under Poller Status, and then click Enable Poller
