"Error creating Log Manager database" or "Error while configuring component Orion.ConfigurePluginDatabaseComponents" when running configuration wizard

This article discusses an error on Configuration Wizard where Log Manager or OLV plugin was opted to install and the database for the plugin was not created correcly

Overview

When installing Log Manager or Orion Log Viewer (OLV), users may encounter errors when the Configuration Wizard is not able to create the database for the plugin.

The Configuration Wizard will produce the following error message:

Error creating Log Manager database. Please check the ConfigurationWizard.log file for details
Error while configuring component Orion.ConfigurePluginDatabaseComponents.

The configuration Wizard log will generate this error:

Cause

This issue occurs due to the following reasons:

The account used for SQL configuration does not have dbcreator server roles.
Failed upgrade/installation from a higher Orion Log Analyzer version

Resolution

The installation ask for a SQL profile/AD profile that ha SQL server roles on the initial phase of the Configuration Wizard.
We would recommend for you to use the profile that has dbcreator server roles to create the database table for Orion Log Manager/Orion Log Viewer.
If the DBA denies this server role, then we would need to request them to create the database manually and assign DBO role to the SolarWinds database user.
Remove the higher version of Log Manager DB then re-run the Configuration Wizard
