Workarounds to install the SEM agent on Windows Server 2019

This article provides a resolution if you receive a "Fatal Application Error" when installing the SEM agent on Windows Server 2019.

Overview

You receive following error when installing the SEM agent on Server 2019 using the local/remote agent installer 6.7.

Flexeraaw7$aaa: Windows DLL failed to load

Cause

Known issue with installer not supporting Java 12 in SEM version 6.7.2 and below

Resolution

This issue is fixed in SEM 2019.4 release. So, please upgrade your SEM to 2019.4

Following workarounds are available if you are using SEM 6.7.2 and below

Install via remote Agent installer.
Install an older version of the agent and let it upgrade through the SEM manager.
Install with the following workaround:
1. Copy installer executable to the agent node.
2. Copy some Java JVM older than 12. The example below uses OpenJdk 11.0.2. JDK doesn't have to be installed on the system.
3. Extract JVM to folder.
4. Run installer from command line (run CMD as Administrator) with the following syntax:
```
SEM-6.7.0-Agent-WindowsInstaller.exe LAX_VM "<PATH TO THE JAVA EXECUTABLE>"
```
