Windows Service Monitor Service Status Returns: “The current web console user does not have sufficient privileges to perform the requested operation.”

This is to address the issue when attempting to check the Windows Service Monitor Service Status in the SolarWinds Web Console, users may encounter an error indicating insufficient privileges. This issue occurs when the logged-in account does not have the required permissions in the Service Control Manager (SCOM) settings in SAM.

Overview

The error message below is displayed when the user tries to start, stop, or view a monitored Windows service using the Windows Service Monitor in the SolarWinds Web Console:

The current web console user does not have sufficient privileges to perform the requested operation.

This behavior is caused by the Service Control Manager permission being disabled for the user account. The restriction can be confirmed in the APM_WebUserPermissions database table, where the column APM.AllowRealTimeServiceExplorer is set to FALSE.

Cause

The currently logged-in user account does not have Service Control Manager (SCoM) permission enabled

Resolution

1. Go to Settings > All Settings

2. Find the Manage Accounts

3. Select the affected account and Click Edit.

4. Go to the "Server & Application Monitor Settings." Look for the Service Control Manager and change the setting from NO to YES.

5. Save the changes and try to open the component details again.
