Why devices with SNMP that declines the validation test cannot be added to the SolarWinds Platform
This article explains why SNMP devices cannot be added as SNMP‑polled nodes in the SolarWinds Platform when they fail the SNMP validation test during node discovery, and why the current product limitation prevents bypassing this validation step.

Overview
When attempting to add a device as an SNMP node in the SolarWinds Platform, if the SNMP validation test fails, the wizard prevents adding the node via SNMP polling.
During the Validation Test step, the SolarWinds Platform sends the standard SNMP GETs (for example, sysObjectID, uptime, and other basic OIDs).
Because the device or its configuration rejects GETs, the test fails, and the device cannot be added as an SNMP‑polled node.
Additionally, some devices, such as the IBM Storage FlashSystem 7000 family, are designed for trap‑based notifications only and do not accept configuration GET requests from an SNMP server, which causes the SolarWinds validation to fail.

Cause
During the Validation Test step, the SolarWinds Platform sends the standard SNMP GETs (for example, sysObjectID, uptime, and other basic OIDs).
Because the device or its configuration rejects GETs, the test fails, and the device cannot be added as an SNMP‑polled node.
Resolution
There is currently no supported option to bypass or skip the SNMP validation test in the Add Node wizard.
The platform requires a successful SNMP validation for a node to be added as an SNMP‑polled device.
Any device that rejects SNMP GET requests will consistently fail the SNMP validation, and the device cannot be added as an SNMP‑polled node under the current product behavior.
As an alternative approach, add the node as an ICMP‑only (ping‑only) node to monitor basic availability and response time.
Note:
The SolarWinds Platform does not provide any built‑in option to bypass or skip the SNMP validation test when adding a node, and there is no roadmap item for this at present.
