Overview

When using the HTTP and HTTPS Monitors, where does the connection come from? The system hosting the SAM installation, the polling engine or the target system being monitored?

Server Application Monitor

Resolution

The source for the HTTP and HTTPS monitors depends on the polling method specified within the node that the application is assigned to.

  • If the polling method is "External", "SNMP" or "WMI", the poll will come from the system hosting the SolarWinds installation or the Additional Poller the Node is assigned to (if Additional Pollers are used).
  • If the polling method is "Agent", the poll will come from the system the Node is monitoring. NOTE: The exception to this is if the Node is using a Polling Method of AGENT but the Application is set with a Preferred Polling Method of AGENTLESS. In this scenario, the poll will come from the system hosting the Solarwinds installation or the Poller the Node is assigned to.
