When an alert email is generated, the FQDN of the server is not part of the link, only the hostname

Resolve issue where the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) of the server is not included in alert email along with the hostname. Only the hostname is included in the generated alert email.

Overview

When an error report is generated, the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) of the server is not part of the link, only the hostname. This results in no resolvable reports.

Cause

The websites table does not contain the FQDN in the name of the server.

Resolution

Note: Before doing any work on your database, make sure that you have a current backup. This procedure makes a permanent change to your database.

  1. Open the Database Manager (Start > SolarWinds Platform > Database Manager).

  2. Click Add default server.

  3. Expand the instance to locate the SolarWinds Platform database.

  4. Scroll down to the Websites table and double-click it.

  5. Click Execute query. This returns the current values in the table.

  6. Click Enable table editing.
  7. Double-click the cell under ServerName and update it to the FQDN (Full Qualified Domain Name) of the server.

  8. (Optional) If required, change the values in the Port and SSLEnabled columns.
  9. Look at the WebsiteID column to make sure updates to ServerName were made correctly.
  10. Close Database Manager.
  11. Restart all the SolarWinds Platform services:
    1. Open the SolarWinds Platform Service Manager.
    2. Click Shutdown Everything.
    3. Wait until all statuses are Stopped.
    4. Click Start Everything. 
    5. Wait until everything has restarted.

  12. Open the SolarWinds Platform Database.
    Future alerts should contain the correct server name in URL.
