WPM cannot count duration time on web pages with automated redirects

If a WPM transaction includes navigation to a web page that automatically redirects to another web page, you can use the "Preserve navigation requests" option to include the time spent to get to each web page in the overall duration for a step.

Overview

If a transaction involves navigating to a web page that includes an automatic redirect to another web page, the time spent navigating to the first web page may not be included in calculated in the overall duration time.

Cause

If a transaction involves a step to navigate to a web page that is set up to automatically redirect users to a second web page, WPM drops the time spent navigating to the first web page from the overall count. Only the time spent to navigate between the first and second web page is included in the duration time because WPM considers the second page to be the main page request.

Resolution

To capture accurate durations when creating a recording that involves navigating to web pages that redirect to another web page:

  1. For the step that redirects to another web page, right-click and select Preserve navigation request from the shortcut menu.
  2. When prompted to verify that you want to preserve navigation requests, click Yes.

If you enable this option, you may notice that navigation takes a bit longer to complete than it would if this option was disabled.
