Overview

Upon upgrading to WPM 3.0, and building recordings using the new 3.0 recorder, users may experience an error message stating: 
401 - Unauthorized: Access is denied due to invalid credentials.
You do not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials that you supplied.


This article suggests a potential cause and resolution for receiving such an error.

Cause

Website may be using Windows Authentication and utilizing NTLM authentication. This is unsupported on the WPM 3.0 Recorder (it is still supported on the old recorder).

Resolution

If the website is utilizing NTLM authentication, and also using the WPM 3.0 Recorder, the recording will not be able to access the web page. The reason for this is the WPM 3.0 Recorder does not support NTLM authentication. For supported actions, visit this page.

You must utilize the WPM Recorder (deprecated) until NTLM authentication is supported on the new WPM Recorder. Please do not build NTLM authentication
