Overview
The password configured on the Player and the corresponding WPM Player location in the SolarWinds Platform must match for the connection to succeed.

An error appears when the Player and SolarWinds Platform passwords do not match.

|
Player configuration |
Required action |
|---|---|
|
Passive, local, no password |
Set a password in the WPM Player Settings app, then configure the same password for the corresponding SolarWinds Platform location. |

Passive, local, existing password |
Confirm that the same password is configured for the corresponding SolarWinds Platform location. |

No password workaround is required for this issue. |
Workaround for passive local Players
Use these steps for a passive Player installed locally as part of a standard WPM or SolarWinds Observability Self-Hosted installation.
-
On the machine where the WPM Player is installed, open the WPM Player Settings app.
-
Set a strong password for the Player and save the configuration.
-
In the SolarWinds Platform, open the configuration for the corresponding WPM Player location.
-
Enter the same password used in WPM Player Settings and save the location configuration.
-
Confirm that the Player reconnects and that recordings play successfully.
Repeat these steps for each passive local Player without a password.
Workaround for passive remote Players in 2026.4 RC1
In 2026.4 RC1, the WPM Player update can fail. Use the installer from https://<SolarWindsServer>/Orion/SEUM/Admin/InstallerDownloader.ashx?installerType=Player for each affected remote Player.
Remote Player that already has a password
-
Download the WPM Player installer.
-
Run the installer on the target Player machine.
-
Confirm that the Player reconnects and that recordings play successfully.
Remote Player without a password
-
Download the WPM Player installer.
-
Run the installer on the target Player machine.
-
Open the WPM Player Settings app on that machine.
-
Set and save a strong password.
-
In the SolarWinds Platform, configure the corresponding WPM Player location with the same password.
-
Confirm that the Player reconnects and that recordings play successfully.
