Linux machines monitored through agent displays incorrect volume information in Orion

This article overviews why volume information displayed in the web console is different from what the Linux machine displays.

Important: Please consider SNMP Linux volume polling for large drives. The reserved 5% can be huge.

Resolution

By default, newly created file systems will be created with 5% of the space allocated for root.

SolarWinds does not recognize the 5% reserved space as part of the drive, which is why the volume size might differ from the size output from a df -kh command on the target Linux machine.

If the volume discrepancy is greater than 5% on volume size or the used space difference displayed in the web console is greater than 2%, open up a case with support including screenshots of the volume information in the web console and the volume information output from both the df -Ta and df -kh command on the target Linux machine.

Volume information displayed in the web console is displayed by parsing the output of the df -Ta command, skipping items with undefined or zero size.

In conclusion, SolarWinds does not recognize the reserved space on those volumes which is why there is a difference.
