Viewing and Editing Raw Recording Files created in WPM

Instructions on editing the raw WPM recording files in XML format. This is needed if a quick change is needed or the user would like to make some change the action the recording is performing. Migrating recordings from one server to another.

Overview

This will explain the process of viewing and editing the raw XML-formatted file that the WPM Recorder produces. This recording file can be modified and imported back into the recorder if for some reason the user would like to make a small modification to the recording file that was created.These steps can also be used to migrate recordings from one WPM instance to another if needed.

To export and edit recording files. 
  1. Open the WPM Recorder and open the recording file you would like to export. 
  2. Go to File > Export.
  3. It will ask to password protect this. Choose "no" if you would like to edit the XML file. Choosing yes will encrypt the recording so it cannot be interpreted.
  4. Choose the save location and filename to export. 
  5. Right click the file > Open with > Notepad.
  6. You may modify the raw XML file.
Note: XML recording files are not intended to be edited in this way. The WPM Recorder is the preferred method for editing recording files. This is an alternative method. This is for informational and testing purposes only. 
 

Import the XML file back into the recorder.
  1. Open the WPM Recorder. 
  2. Go to File > Import.
  3. Choose the recording file to import.
  4. Save the imported recording to the database. File > Save or File > Save As if you would like to save this imported recording as a separate recording.
