This article helps you when you face the following error message in ITSM:

"Validation failed: Email domains Entries must be a single line of comma-separated domain names (e.g., 'example.comexample.in') "

Product section

Service Desk

Cause

ITSM has made updates to enforce stricter formatting, especially regarding spaces and other characters. So if any user has used spaces, commas, invalid domains (e.g., just the domain name without .com, .net, .co.uk), or specific keywords like #EST#, etc.

Resolution

ITSM has implemented stricter formatting to address issues with spaces and other characters, as these have affected several users. Please make sure the domains are entered like this:

domain1.comdomain2.comdomain3.com, etc...

Unlike before, when any value can be added to the list as long as it is separated correctly. A valid domain must end with .com, .net, .co.uk, etc.

The changes were implemented because some customers were using line breaks instead of commas, which caused issues, particularly with users not appearing in the "Requester" field when editing incident tickets.

To prevent this across all accounts, the system now strictly enforces the use of commas, as originally indicated on the settings page.

In the Allowed domains list, if the keys were entered like "#".

So, try removing those "#" keys and replacing them with valid domains if required.

Additionally, we recommend copying all the domains into a text editor (like Notepad or MS Word), ensuring there are no line breaks or extra spaces, and that each domain is followed by a comma and a space. Then, paste the cleaned list back into the settings and click "Update".

Note: Ensure that the entered domains are valid.

The "Allowed Domains" under Setup → Global Settings → Service Portal is specifically for allowing external users to log in to the SolarWinds Service Desk web portal. If external users are only submitting tickets via email and not logging into the portal, there’s no need to add them to the "Allowed Domains" list.

To control which domains can or cannot create tickets via email, you can configure the Allowed List or Blocked List under Setup → Account → Email Settings.
