VCenter credential issue in NPM

VCenter credential issue with these symptoms: Symptoms: - The testing of correct credentials for vCenter failed when you try to add node as VMware node in Orion. - Internet Explorer is not able to pass through certificate warning if you browse https://vCenter/ or https://vCenter/mob - Other browsers (e.g. FireFox) are able to pass through the certificate warning. - The VMware vSphere Client installed on the Orion computer is able to connect to the target vCenter.

Overview

This article provides a resolution for the VCenter credential issue with the following symptoms:

Symptoms:
 - The testing of correct credentials for vCenter failed when you try to add node as VMware node in Orion.
 - Internet Explorer is not able to pass through certificate warning if you browse https://vCenter/ or https://vCenter/mob
 - Other browsers (such as FireFox) are able to pass through the certificate warning.
 - The VMware vSphere Client installed on the Orion computer is able to connect to the target vCenter.

Cause

vCenter is using a 512 bit key which is invalidated by Microsoft KB2661254.

Resolution

Environment 

Issue occurs on vCenter 4.0.x or its upgraded versions. vCenter 4.1 and above are not affected by Microsoft KB2661254.
