Overview

The process for having a MIB added to the SolarWinds Universal Device Poller application is to:

  1. Create a support ticket
  2. Provide support with the MIB provided by the Vendor
  3. Once the MIB has been collected by Technical Support it will be processed and added to the latest version of the MIB database which can be downloaded from the customer portal

Resolution

You cannot directly import a MIB into the Universal Device Poller (UnDP) application.

To add a MIB to UnDP, send the MIB from the vendor to SolarWinds (create a support ticket and attach the MIB file to the case), so that our developers can include the MIB in the SolarWinds MIB.cfg file. Beginning in 2025.2, this will be a MIBs.db file.

Once the MIB has been received it will be added to the next update of the MIB database.
This can be downloaded from the Customer Portal, please see update the SolarWinds MIB Database for detailed instructions on how to update your local MIB database on your SolarWinds servers.

The MIBs.cfg (MIBs.db in 2025.2) file is a local file installed on your hard drive, located at C:\programdata\solarwinds\. SolarWinds posts an updated MIB database on the Customer Portal.  To download and install the MIB database:

  • Log in to the SolarWinds Customer Portal.
  • Click Downloads > SolarWinds MIB Database.
  • Choose the download option based on your version. For 2025.2 and newer, be sure to select the msi targeted to this version. For older versions, select either the msi or zip option. The MIB database starts downloading.
  • If you chose zip, open the downloads folder, extract the archive, and copy the MIBs.cfg file to the SolarWinds folder on your default install volume. Beginning in SolarWinds Platform
2025.2, this will be a MIBs.db file. See Update the SolarWinds MIB Database for more details.
  • If you chose msi, open the downloads folder and run the msi installer to update the database.
