Update the SQL password for SolarWinds Platform

This article details how to change the SolarWinds Account password and or username used to connect to the database.

Overview

When you change the database password in SQL, you also need to change the password or username the SolarWinds Platform products use to connect to the database.

Note: Updating the password for the actual SQL user is done on your SQL database. If you are unsure how to do it, consult your DBA.

Cause

Changing DB password.

Resolution

SolarWinds Platform 2023.3 and above

Configuration wizard was updated with Advanced option to reconfigure database connection only. Refer to the following documentation.

SolarWinds Platform 2023.2 and below

Log in to your Primary SolarWinds server.
Click Start > SolarWinds Orion > Configuration Wizard and update the database password in the Configuration Wizard. See Run the SolarWinds Platform Configuration wizard
Log in to any Additional Polling Engines and Additional Web Servers and run the Configuration Wizard for Database, and Services for each of them.
