Overview
Unrecognized NameID - user won't be auto provisioned: Role Mapping is disabled is a common error in SSO. Role Mapping does not have to be enabled to enable SAML SSO feature. Role Mapping is just an optional feature that allows automatic provisioning of users based on their IdP group memberships and assigns roles accordingly.

Cause
This error message will normally happen if you have tried to click and access the created SAML app from your IdP. This error message appears due to the following reasons:
- You don't have any configured groups claim that is required in your IdP in order to enable the Role Mapping.
- Role Mapping feature is disabled and no groups assigned in the Role Mapping section of SolarWinds UI

Resolution
Getting this error message doesn't mean you have to enable the Role Mapping feature. If you intend to have the SSO SAML feature enabled and the Role Mapping disabled, please refer to the steps below:
For SolarWinds Legacy SaaS Products (Loggly, AppOptics, Pingdom, Papertrail)
- Log in to the SolarWinds Common Settings page.

- Once the user accepts the invite - have the user authenticate via SSO through the "Login with SSO" button from the SolarWinds login page.
For SolarWinds Observability SaaS:
- Log in to your SolarWinds Observability SaaS account.
- Go to Settings.
- Go to Users page. Ensure that the user that will login is already a member of your account. If not yet a member, manually invite the user by clicking the "Invite User" button.
- Once the user accepts the invite - have the user authenticate via SSO through the "Login with SSO" button from the SolarWinds Observability SaaS login page.
If you wish to enable the Role Mapping permanently, please refer to the documentation linked here.
