Unlock and reset a WHD Tech account

This article can be used when a WHD Tech or Admin has been locked out, Deactivated, or should the password needs to be reset.

Overview

There are two ways to login into the Web Help Desk: 

  1. A local account
  2. Linked client using their AD/LDAP connection

If you attempt to log in multiple times or your account is deactivated, you can reset your local password from the database.

Cause

Login multiple attempts.

Resolution

Perform the following steps to manually unlock a Tech account in a PostgreSQL database:
 

  1. Stop Web Help Desk Service
  2. Browse to:
    ...\WebHelpDesk\pgsql9\bin
  3. Run pgAdmin3. 
  4. In the pgAdmin III window, go to File > Add Server
  5. Add the following:
    • Name: WHDDB
    • Host: localhost (or the IP Address)
    • Port: 20293
    • Maintenance DB: postgres
    • Username: whd
    • Password: whd
  6. Click OK.
  7. Expand Databases.
    You should see the whd database.
  8. Select WHD database and click on SQL.
    You should now have the SQL Query window to type your queries.
  9. Unlock or reset the Tech account through your Web Help Desk database by executing the following statements:

    -- of merchantability or of fitness for a particular purpose. The risk arising

    UPDATE TECH
    SET USE_LDAP_AUTHENTICATION=0,
    INCORRECT_AUTH_ATTEMPTS=0,
    INACTIVE = 0,
    PASSWORD='admin'
    WHERE USER_NAME='<Enter_TechUserName_Here>';
  10. Save your changes.
  11. Start Web Help Desk
  12. Log in to Web Help Desk using the account credentials.
NOTE: If Web Help Desk Database already exist, no need to add another one.
