Network Performance Monitor

Cause

This issue is caused by a connection problem from NPM to SQL. This could be due to the SQL user not having the right permissions on the Solarwinds Orion Database or some underlying network problem.

Resolution

Resolution #1:
  1. Open Database Manager and click Add default server.
If the same error message appears, the connection to SQL needs to be fixed.
  2. Use telnet to verify if port 1433 is open.
  3. If it still does not connect, verify if there is something that is blocking the server from establishing a connection to the SQL server.

Resolution #2:

  1. Run the configuration wizard again
  2. Select all 3 choices, database/website/services

Resolution #3:

  1. Apply Tweaking Windows Server performance to prevent port exhaustion when using Orion modules
  2. A reboot of the Orion server, you may also need to reboot the SQL server.
