How to delete Orion Remote Collector (ORCs)

This article explains how to safely delete an Orion Remote Collector (ORC) and its associated agent.

Overview

When you try to remove the Agent for a system registered as a SolarWinds Platform Remote Collector, you may see this error: “You are attempting to delete an Agent which is registered as SolarWinds Platform Remote Collector. To delete this agent, you must first remove or reassign all entities monitored by this Remote Collector to a different Polling Engine or Remote Collector from the Manage Nodes page. Next, delete the Engine from the Polling Engine Details page.”

Cause

The Agent cannot be deleted while it is registered as a Remote Collector; you must delete the Remote Collector from the Polling Engines page first.

Resolution

  • Go to Settings > All Settings > Polling Engines. If the ORC is monitoring entities, first reassign those entities to another Polling Engine or Remote Collector from Manage Nodes.

  • In Polling Engines, delete the Engine entries associated with the ORC(s).

  • Go to Settings > All Settings > Agents, and remove the corresponding ORC Agent(s).
