Overview

The following error is received in the Configuration wizard when installing Additional Polling Engine Server:

 

Unable to resolve primary Orion server name "XXX"

Cause

  1. The host name is not properly set on the DNS record.
  2. The Additional Polling Engine is unable to connect to the Primary Orion server.

Resolution

First, have the host name properly set on the DNS record. If all set, do the following steps:
  1. Ping both the hostname and IP address of your primary Orion server from the Additional Polling Engine server.
  2. Verify that all the required ports are open and Windows Firewall are not blocking to and from the Additional Polling Engine and primary Orion server.
  3. Navigate to the hosts file on the Additional Polling Engine:
    1. Go to \Windows\System32\drivers\etc.
    2. Create a back up of the host file and save in your local drive.
    3. Open the hosts file in a text editor.
    4. Add the IP address and hostname of your primary Orion server, as indicated in the comments within the hosts file. 
    5. Save and exit.
