Unable to open the Network Atlas

This article addresses an issue that prevents you from opening the Network Atlas on a server running Microsoft .NET FrameWork 4.0 or earlier.

Overview

Scenario 1:
When you open Network Atlas on a server running Microsoft^® .NET FrameWork 4.0 or earlier, the application fails to open.

The Network Atlas log file is located at: C:\ProgramData\SolarWinds\NetworkAtlas\NetworkAtlas.log

When you open the file, the following error is displayed:

[1] FATAL NetworkAtlas - Message: Could not load type 'System.Runtime.CompilerServices.ExtensionAttribute' from assembly 'mscorlib, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089'.

Scenario 2:
When you open Network Atlas on a server it shows the following error:
Network Atlas is already running in a different session on this machine. Please close the running application and try to start it again.

Resolution

Solution for Scenario 1:

Upgrade the server to .NET FrameWork 4.5 or later.

Solution for Scenario 2:

Open task manager and perform "end task" o the existing network atlas process.
