When adding ESXi host as monitored node, receiving error: Unable to connect to the specified endpoint with the provided credentials. Added Via ICMP.

Resolution

Verify connection to the vmware MOB:

  1. Remote to the SolarWinds Platform polling server.
  2. Open a browser.
  3. Navigate to https://<vcenter>/mob
change vcenter to actual hostname/IP of ESX host or vcenter (which ever is not working).
  1. Proceed past the self-signed certificate.
  2. Log in with ESX or vcenter credentials.
  3. If login fails, contact vmware support.


Update the Windows Host file 

  •  Add the Hostname and FQDN of all polling engines on each Polling Engine's Hosts file (MainPoller and Additional Poller)
  • Add the host name and IP address of the vcenter to the Hosts file on the main poller and the APE.
  •  Browse to c:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc
  • Open the hosts file.
  • Add the host name and IP address of the VCenter or standalone ESXI Machine
