Unable to connect to Serv-U using any Protocol using a hostname

This article describes the possible reason why users cannot connect to Serv-U.

Overview

The users may encounter an issue of not connecting to the Serv-U server using the hostname. Random errors show on the FTP client, such as invalid user credentials, unauthorized IP, etc. There is no traffic coming to the Serv-U server when checking the logs.

Cause

Hostname resolves to a different IP, not the local or public IP assigned to the Serv-U server.

Resolution

Check the hostname if it's resolving to the correct IP of the Serv-U server using the ping command
Use the actual server IP when connecting to Serv-U instead of the hostname
