Unable to Edit or create High Availability Pool due to "Hostname already exists on the target DNS Server" error in the SolarWinds Platform

This is to address an issue where an HA Pool cannot be edited or recreated since the Virtual Hostname already exists in the DNS Server.

Overview

When editing or creating a Multi-Subnet HA pool, you are being prompted with the error below upon clicking "Next":

Hostname 'your_VirtualHostname' exists on the target DNS server

Resolution

This issue is addressed in SolarWinds Platform 2025.2.1. Consider upgrading your environment. If you can't upgrade, use the workaround below.

 

Workaround

a. Use Microsoft Edge to log in to the SolarWinds Platform Web Console.
b. Navigate to Settings > My Deployment and select Set up High Availability.
c. On the second page, enter the following information:
DNS Type
DNS Server IP Address
DNS Zone
TSIG Shared Secret Key Name
TSIG Shared Secret Key Value
e. Press F12 (Developer Tools).
f. Select Network (WIFI icon).
g. Click on TEST and go back to Developer Tools.


h.  Right-click on Validate Pool and select Edit and Resend.

i. Inside the box on POST, replace "ValidatePool" with "ensurePool".

 


j. Then click on Send.
k. Refresh the page, and you can now see that the Pool was created.
