This article describes how to use the UDT Compatibility Checker tool, what it can do, and how to collect data for additional investigation.

If SolarWinds UDT has been installed using the default directories, the Compatibility Checker is located at
For 2020.2.6 and older C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\UDT\UDTCompatibilityChecker.exe
For 2022.3 and newer C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\SolarWinds.UDT.Checker.UI.exe

How to scan a device 

  1. Add existing Orion node To poll a device for data, click New. This opens a wizard to guide you through choosing the device to poll and what data to collect.

  2. Specify a session name, if required. This can be useful in case you are going to scan multiple devices.

  3. Select whether the device you want to poll has already been added to Orion as a node, or if you need to manually set up the device, and continue below as appropriate.

Add existing Orion node

  1. Enter device manually, Enter credential (User Name and Password) to log on to Orion server.

  2. Select the node to poll from the drop-down list. The nodes can be filtered according to the polling method specified in Orion: SNMP, ICMP, or WMI.

  3. Select what type of data you want to collect from the device.

  4. When you click Finish, the selected UDT polling job(s) will be executed against the device, and the collected data displayed.

Enter Device Manually

  1. How to save the results Enter the IP address of the device, credential type, and vendor, and click Next.

    The credential type can be SNMP1, SNMP2c, SNMP3, or REL(Remote Event Log). This specifies the protocol used to communicate with the device.

    The vendor can be Cisco, Juniper, or Other. This specifies whether to use proprietary (not standard) OIDs to get the data.

    • If you selected SNMP1 or SNMP2c, enter community string;
    • for SNMP3 enter username and context;
    • for REL enter the username and password to access the remote event log.
  2. Select what kind of data you want to collect from the device.
  3. When you click Finish, the selected UDT polling job(s) will be executed against the device, and collected data displayed.

How to save the results

Data from the UDT Compatibility Checker are essential when investigating any issue that happens only on some specific device, therefore provide as much data as possible. There are several ways how to save this data:

  • Live Log: click Live Log to open a new window with textual output. Copy/paste this text into a file or click Save.
  • Current Session into File: select this from the Save drop-down to save the selected session
  • All Sessions into File: select this from the Save drop-down to save all selected sessions
  • All Sessions into Diagnostics: select this from the Save drop-down to save the file into the C:\Programdata\SolarWinds\Logs\Orion folder, where it will be automatically picked up when diagnostics are collected. This is the easiest and preferred option.
NOTE: When saving the session into a file, please be sure there are no spaces in the filename, as including a space will cause the file to become unreadable and will display the following error:

Additionally, You can test the credentials for DC polling via the Edit Node Properties page of the Orion Web Console.
