Resolution

Location of log files depends on version of NCM. Historically mosty of the logs were located within installation folder of NCM but recent releases have changed locations. Below is list of "root" folders where NCM stores its log files:
 

  • %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Solarwinds\Cirrus\
  • %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Solarwinds\InformationService\
  • %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Solarwinds\Orion\NCM\

 

Note:

  • Depending on environment (Windows version) environment variables may have different values:
    • Windows 2003 and older
      %ALLUSERSPROFILE% = C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\
    • Windows 2008 and newer
      %ALLUSERSPROFILE% = C:\ProgramData\
  • ​Location of logs cannot be changed
  • NCM continuously append records to the same log file.
  • Maximum size of logs is set by default to 10MB. After file exceeds this size NCM splits it in half and keeps the most recent half.
  • NCM stops writing logs if disk size is less than 50MB.
