Cause
The hostname is longer than 15 characters. Microsoft trims any characters beyond the fifteenth in a NetBIOS-resolved hostname. A trimmed hostname may prevent Orion services from properly identifying your SolarWinds Orion Main Polling Engine.
Note: SolarWinds recommends using a DNS hostname that is less than 15 characters long.
Resolution
Change the hostname on your Orion Server to be less than 15 characters.
This procedure may differ slightly based on your operating system.
- Using the Windows Search function, search for "name".
- Click View your PC name.
- Click Rename PC, provide a name that is less than 15 characters long, and complete the renaming.
- Restart your computer.
