Resolution

  1. Log onto the Storage Manager server or agent that you are using for collection.
  2. Open a cmd window and type the command:
    Telnet <smi-s><port/></smi-s>

For example, by default SMI-S providers use port 5988 for HTTP, so you would use the command:
    Telnet 199.199.1.2 5988

If the connection to the port is working, you will see a blank screen. If you get an error, then there is a connection issue or the port is not correct.

Troubleshooting tips for SMI-S provider connection issues:
1. Check that the SMI-S provider's IP address is correct.
2. Is there a firewall blocking this connection or port?
3. Is the SMI-S provider service started? Reference Restart the SMI-S Provider on Storage Arrays for details
