In many scenarios, the version of Task Factory needs to be compatible with the appropriate version of the key file and may need to be upgraded and/or downgraded to match it.

Resolution

Steps to troubleshooting TF Sftp connection manager for the error stack Could not open private key file:

Verify another 3rd part application can connect, such as Filezilla, WinSCP, etc.
Check folder permissions of the key file.
Check the version of the key file. In many scenarios, the version of Task Factory needs to be compatible with the appropriate version of the key file and may need to be upgraded and/or downgraded to match it. For example, any verbiage in a key file that indicates something like Argon2 indicates that a key file is on a version that is incompatible and needs to be downgraded.
