Switch Polling Method to Agent for nodes in bulk

This article describes how to change the polling method for multiple nodes to Agent. To start using the agent, the agent must already be deployed on the nodes.

Example is WMI to Agent but it will work for SNMP to WMI and other combination. This Article is really show how to change the polling method of nodes in bulk 

Orion Platform

1. Go to Settings > Manage Nodes.

2. Select the nodes that you want to poll by an Agent.

   1.  If all the nodes use the same polling method, such as WMI, select Polling Method in the Group by list.

   2. Click the method in the list to display the nodes on the right pane.

Click the checkbox on the top to select all the nodes. If the results include more pages, click the red link in the header to select all nodes.

3. Click Edit Properties.

4. Select the box for Polling Method, and then select the Agent radio button.

To switch the polling method on selected nodes to Agent, the Agent must already be installed on the selected nodes. If not, deploy the agent to the selected nodes first.

For NPM versions earlier than 12.x, there is no indication that an agent is installed. For NPM 12.x and later versions, the following message is displayed to indicate that an agent software is already installed before you change a polling method:

Agent software is installed on [server name].

When changing the polling method to Linux Agent, it will require to add the credentials, if credential is not added, even when the agent is already running, the process will stop to continue.
Message: "Credentials are needed only to install the agent software" this message does not apply for changing on bulk to Linux agents.


  
5. Click Submit.

Obs: For security concerns, it is not possible to switch the polling method to Agent in bulk without assigning credentials, even if the Agent is already running to the devices.
