Overview

By default, DPA ships with and uses a version of OpenJDK. However, you can choose to use a different supported Java installation. (See the system requirements for your DPA version for the currently supported Java version.)

This article provides instructions for using a different Java installation when DPA is installed on a Windows server. If DPA is installed on a Linux server, see Specify the Java installation that DPA uses (Linux) .

Resolution

  1. Determine the location of the Java executable file (java.exe) that you want DPA to use.
  2. Open this file:
    C:\Program Files\SolarWinds\DPA\iwc\tomcat\ignite_config\java_loc.txt
  3. Locate the line with the full path to the Java executable file. For example:
    C:\Program Files\SolarWinds\DPA\iwc\jre\bin\java.exe
  4. Update the line to point to the full path of the new Java executable file, and save the file.
  5. Recreate the Ignite PI Server service by running two batch files.
Run the batch files on most Windows servers by opening a command prompt as an admin,
change directory to the path that has the batch files, and then execute them.
If you simply click on the .bat files to execute them, it's possible that the .bat file will not run
because of user access control settings, or it will appear to run but the memory setting won't be changed.

    <DPAinstallDir>\removeWindowsService.bat
    <DPAinstallDir>\createWindowsService.bat
  6. To confirm that DPA is using the new Java executable file:
    1. Navigate to C:\Program Files\SolarWinds\DPA\iwc\tomcat\bin.
    2. Execute IgnitePIw.exe and click the Java tab. The Java Virtual Machine option should point to the same directory as the new Java executable file:
