Solarwinds Network Topology Mapper 2.3.0.50153 Setup Wizard ended Prematurely Error when Installing or Upgrading NTM 2.3

There are instances in which upgrading the NTN 2.2 to NTM 2.3 or freshly installing the NTM 2.3, an error appears, "SolarWinds Network Topology Mapper 2.3.0.50153 Setup Wizard ended Prematurely".


As per the NTM 2.3 Release Notes, before upgrading to or installing the NTM 2.3, the MSQL Server Compact 4.0 must already be installed in the NTM Server.
Moreover, you cannot install both NTM and SolarWinds Hybrid Cloud Observability on the same machine. If installed on the same machine, one of the products will not work.

1. Missing MSQL Server Compact 4.0. as a pre-requisite requirement.
2. Unable to install in a Server without SolarWinds Platform products using Windows OS GUI.

For Cause #1: Missing Pre-requisite requirement:

1. Download the MSQL Server Compact 4.0 package depending on the machine type (64bit or 32bit). https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=29037 
2. Install MSQL Server Compact 4.0 on your NTM Server.
3. Reset the license store using the license reset tool if NTM is already present on the machine.
4. Continue with the NTM 2.3 upgrade/install by targetting the installer MSI with a command prompt elevated as an administrator.

For Cause #2: Unable to install in a Server without Orion products using Windows OS GUI.
Installing the NTM MSI using a silent command can help the issue.

1. Install the SolarWinds License Manager
   • https://downloads.solarwinds.com/solarwinds/Release/LicenseManager/LicenseManager.zip
   • After installing, run as an admin.
   • If you get an error that is unable to detect any SolarWinds Products, click ok as it is normal since NTM is not yet installed.
2. Put the NTM MSI installer in the C:\ drive
3. Rename the NTM MSI installer to a one-word file name such as NTM.msi
4. Run the command prompt/cmd as an administrator and add the following:

cd C:\NTM_Installerpath msiexec /i NTM.msi /qn /L*V %log_path%\Install.log"

There is a times msi file is not reflecting as installer but sometimes it is .exe. Below commands can help
