Overview

About the SolarWinds Platform Installer

The SolarWinds Platform Installer is the easiest and most accurate way to determine your upgrade path. You can run the installer at any time to check for product updates and upgrade recommendations without starting the upgrade or affecting any existing SolarWinds Platform services. If you have the minimum required versions, you can upgrade multiple products by downloading one installer. Even if you have older product versions that cannot upgrade directly using the SolarWinds Platform Installer, you can still use it to build a detailed upgrade path.

SolarWinds Platform Installer capabilities:

The installer includes information about both generally available (GA) product versions and release candidates (RCs).
The installer automatically scans your environment and provides information about required database or server OS upgrades.
The installer can generate an upgrade path for an unlimited number of SolarWinds Platform products.
If you select products that require NPM, the installer verifies that NPM is already installed or is also selected.
You can export a report to use as a checklist for upgrades.

About upgrading and migration

When you have your upgrade path, use the SolarWinds Platform Products Installation and Upgrade Guide to upgrade one or more SolarWinds Platform products. The guide includes steps to prepare for an upgrade and links to additional resources such as release notes, system requirements, and migration information.

Build your upgrade path with the SolarWinds Platform Installer

Start the SolarWinds Platform Installer:
- For 2019.2 or later deployments in an online environment:
  1. In the SolarWinds Platform Web Console, click Settings > My Deployment.
  2. Click the Updates tab.
- For 2018.4 or earlier deployments, or for later deployments in an offline environment:
  1. Download the installer for one of your SolarWinds Platform products from the Customer Portal. (You can install or upgrade multiple SolarWinds Platform products with the same installer.)
  2. If you are in an offline environment, save the installer on your SolarWinds Platform server.
  3. Run the installer .exe file.
Under What Do You Want to Do Today, click Make a Plan.

The installer generates the upgrade path for all of your SolarWinds products. For older products that cannot be upgraded with the SolarWinds Platform installer, it provides links to the required installers. This example shows the installer's ability to generate complex upgrade paths:
