Service Configuration Time Out in SQL Sentry

This article provides steps to update the Monitoring Service credentials when the Service Configuration utility times out.

Overview

When running the Service Configuration, it fails to restart the Monitoring Service with a timeout error.

Cause

The Service Configuration utility is unable to obtain exclusive access to the Monitoring Service to perform the restart.

Resolution

If the steps below do not address the timeout issue, then the only other option will be to reinstall the Monitoring Service with the updated credentials.

Open the Services window.
Stop the Monitoring Service(s).
Close the Services window.
Launch the Service Configuration Utility.
Update the credentials.
If no timeouts, then launch the Services window.
Start the Monitoring Service(s).
