Server and application performance degraded after applying Microsoft update KB5041578

After applying August 2024 MS update KB5041578 on Windows 2019 some customers reported performance issues with SolarWinds application and Servers.

Overview

Some customers running SolarWinds platform on Windows Server 2019 OS reported application performance issues after applying this MS patch.

Symptoms on SolarWinds application may include:

  • Web console slow
  • Slow / Long Running SWIS queries


But these issues are not specific to SolarWinds Application, they are just symptoms after applying this update.

According to the KB5041578 release notes these are common symptoms Microsoft observed in some of their customer environments:

  • Show increased CPU utilization

  • Experience increased disk latency/ disk utilization

  • Indicate degraded OS or application performance

  • Show that the CryptSVC service fails to start

  • May boot into a black screen

  • Experience slow to boot

  • Freeze or hang

Resolution

These issues are addressed in KB5043050, so customers are advised to apply this patch if these scenarios are applicable to them and if issue persists, open support ticket with SolarWinds.
