Serv-U Web Console and Control Panel show different Serv-U versions

After installing Serv-U 15.5.4 and then copying the 15.5.4 Hotfix 1 files into the Serv-U installation directory, the Serv-U Web Console (and Program Information/About), shows version 15.5.4.125, while Control Panel > Programs and Features continues to show 15.5.4.108. This can cause confusion when teams try to verify whether Hotfix 1 has been applied successfully.

Overview

This can cause confusion when teams try to verify whether Hotfix 1 has been applied successfully.

Product section

Serv-U Managed File Transfer & Serv-U FTP Server

Cause

  • Serv-U 15.5.4 base build is version 15.5.4.108.
  • Hotfix 1 replaces the Serv-U binaries and updates the internal program build to 15.5.4.125, but it does not update the Windows MSI product entry that Control Panel uses for the “Version” column.

Resolution

This is expected behaviour for Serv-U 15.5.4 with Hotfix 1 applied.

Serv-U 15.5.4 base version is 15.5.4.108, while Hotfix 1 updates the Serv-U program files to version 15.5.4.125. Because of this, the Serv-U Web Console, Program Information, or tray/About window may show 15.5.4.125, while Windows Control Panel can still continue to display 15.5.4.108.

If the Serv-U console shows 15.5.4.125, that confirms Hotfix 1 has been applied successfully.

Please use the version shown within Serv-U itself as the confirmation point for the hotfix, rather than the version listed in Programs and Features.

The version displayed in Control Panel > Programs and Features will continue to show the base version (15.5.4.108).

Once the hotfix has been successfully applied, the updated hotfix build number will only be reflected within the Serv-U Management Console, specifically at the bottom of the console and under Global > Server Details > Program Information.
